Strengthening Forest Protection, PT LAJ and PT WW Sign MoU with KPHP Tebo Barat and BPHL

The Memorandum of Understanding on Forest Area Protection was signed on March 19, 2025, at Hotel Aston Jambi. The agreement involved key stakeholders, including PT Royal Lestari Utama (RLU) Chief Sustainability Officer Karmila Parakkasi, representing PT Lestari Asri Jaya (LAJ) and PT Wanamukti Wisesa (WW), along with representatives from the UPTD Forest Management Unit (KPHP) Tebo Barat Unit IX, the Jambi Provincial Forestry Department, and the Sustainable Forest Management Agency (BPHL) Region IV Jambi.

The MoU aims to address illegal encroachment affecting approximately 30% of the licensed forest management areas of both companies. It also focuses on structuring settlements for communities that have occupied land within the concession areas and strengthening institutional accountability for forest protection. This agreement represents a concrete step in preserving state forests and reinforces collective commitment to tackling illegal encroachment, which threatens forest ecosystems.

As part of the follow-up, various measures will be implemented, including joint patrols to safeguard forest areas in accordance with the agreed Annual Work Plan (RKT), data collection on communities occupying PBPH areas, and outreach programs on forestry regulations and social forestry initiatives. With this MoU, PT Lestari Asri Jaya and PT Wanamukti Wisesa become the first PBPH holders in Indonesia to implement the directives of the Director General of Sustainable Forest Management regarding forest protection, setting a precedent for other forestry companies in safeguarding Indonesia’s forests.
